Local Highway Patrol is spreading the love just in time for Valentine celebrations. The campaign is called The Basin Loves Safe Drivers for Valentine Weekend and what it means is extra patrols will be out. “We will be out enforcing speed, seat belt, and DUI on February 10th and 11th,” shares UHP Sgt. Kellie Oaks. “We just want to keep everyone safe and able to enjoy their celebrations leading up to Valentine’s Day.” Utah’s Department of Public Safety reports that crashes involving drunk drivers are some of the most violent, frequently resulting in the deaths of the drunk driver as well as innocent victims. While the number of DUI arrests have gone down since 2010, there are still over 10,500 DUI arrests made in the state of Utah each year. In 2014, nearly 20 percent of fatal crashes in Utah were caused by drunk drivers. Keep yourself, your Valentine and fellow community members safe leading up to this Valentine’s Day and never drink and drive. Not even one drop.
