UHP Reminds People to Not Drive Drowsy This Holiday Weekend

AAA predicts a record-breaking 48.9 million Americans will travel for this Independence Day weekend and safety cannot be understated. After a multi-vehicle collision caused by a drowsy driver sent 3 people to the hospital, the Utah Highway Patrol is asking people to be aware of the signs and effects of driving drowsy. Some things to look for is frequent blinking/eye closure, suffering attention failure, and memory impairment. It might seem like it is not a big deal but drowsiness leads to slower reaction times as well as impaired judgements. These behaviors will lead to more increased levels of risk taking while suffering from deficiencies in cognitive performance. Another effect is individuals suffer from attention failure on top of loss of visual awareness. Celebrating
the 4th of July
is a great tradition but please be responsible and if you are drowsy do not drive.
