Local Utah Highway Patrol is upping the focus on drug interdiction on Basin roadways as marijuana from neighboring Colorado is often transported on Highway 40. While it is a priority, UHP also emphasizes that this does not mean troopers will be targeting Colorado drivers. “We want to emphasize that while we see a lot of Colorado vehicles, there still needs to be a violation before we can make a stop,” shares UHP Officer Rex Olsen. “We won’t single someone out just because they are from Colorado.” Recent training also means troopers are keeping their eye out for human trafficking. What this means is if pulled over, you may be asked questions about the kids in the vehicle. The emphasis is an effort to watch for anything that may be suspicious and above all, to keep kids safe and provide a great service to the Basin.
