UDOT Proposal For Highway 40 And 1500 West Intersection In Vernal

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has proposed a project in Vernal to construct a section of raised concrete curb in the median along Highway 40 at the intersection of 1500 West. “If constructed, the raised curb would restrict left turns from 1500 West onto north or southbound US-40,” shares the announcement. “UDOT’s goal is to reduce traffic conflict points, promote driver awareness, and improve safety at this intersection. The proposed project may also include the replacement of pedestrian ramps and addition of crosswalks on the north and south legs of the intersection to improve pedestrian access and safety.” The reason UDOT is not considering a light at this intersection is, “from previous discussions with Vernal City, UDOT understands that long-term City planning includes installing a signal at the intersection of Aggie Boulevard and US-40, just west of this proposed median. This future improvement will provide a safer and more efficient access point than the skewed (non-90 degree angled) intersection at 1500 West.”
