The Utah Department of Transportation has announced a major project that will run on Highway 40 from Heber City to the Colorado state line. “Starting Monday, January 26, we’re starting a project to install more than 130 miles of new fiber-optic cable along US-40,” shares the announcement. “This work helps expand Utah’s fiber network, bringing better broadband access to rural areas and supporting our traffic and safety systems…Crews will be trenching and drilling along the shoulder of the road to place the fiber and conduit. The project is broken into segments, with work happening independently in each area.” The first area will run from Heber City to mile marker 51 just east of Strawberry Reservoir. Major delays or closures are not expected but the work will be visible and there will be times with intermittent flagging in place as construction vehicles enter and exit work zones. It’s anticipated Segment A will wrap up by the end of summer.
