Recently, Uintah Basin Technical College announced the creation of the Dalton Nolan Van Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is in honor of Dalton Van, a recipient of the 2019 Miller Weld-Mask Scholarship , who passed away unexpectedly on June 13th, 2020. In their post UBTech shared, ”Dalton was a talented welder with a passion for the trade. He attended Utah State University Eastern and earned a gold medal in the Utah SkillsUSA competition and took silver while representing Uintah Basin Technical College at Nationals. To honor Dalton, his hard work, and his dedication to the welding trade, Miller and the American Welding Society (AWS) will award a $1,000 scholarship each year between 2021-2025 to a student at Uintah Basin Technical College (UBTech) to support their welding education, carrying Dalton’s legacy forward in the future of welding.” Each year one student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship for five years which will result in five students getting the scholarship which will total $5,000 in funds. Applicants will need to be a minimum of eighteen years of age or turning eighteen during income school year. They will also need a minimum of a high school diploma (or provide proof of graduation eligibility) and have a 2.5 overall GPA. Any applicant will need to be enrolled full-time and provide a letter of reference indicating how they will use their welding education. Finally the applicant needs to attend a minimum of a 900 HR Certificate Program course which will result in a 900 HR UBTech Program Certificate.
