In an effort to address some misinformation about COVID-19 and vaccinations, Uintah Basin Healthcare’s Chief Medical Officer, Doctor Greg Staker, answered two common questions that they are hearing at the hospital. First, what is the point of getting the vaccination if you already had COVID? “The CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Report (MMWR) reports that in a case-control study, ‘being unvaccinated was associated with 2.34 times the odds of reinfection compared with being fully vaccinated’”. To reduce likelihood for future infection, all eligible persons should receive a COVID-19 vaccine, even those with previous SARS-CoV-2 infection.” The second question is, do individuals need to wait 90 days after infection or exposure to be vaccinated? “Only people with Multi-system Inflammatory Disease (MIC) or those having received monoclonal antibody treatment or convalescent plasma need to wait 90 days. Others should be vaccinated as soon as possible after they have recovered.”
