Statistics of Basin high school graduates going on to attend college look pretty bleak, a fact taken seriously by UBATC leadership. Just 29 percent of high school graduates in the Uintah Basin go on to attend college within a year after high school graduation. In fact, statistics through the Utah System of Higher Education show that the rate in Duchesne, Uintah and Daggett Counties is far lower than the statewide average of 42 percent. UBATC President Aaron Weight says that it is “time to move the needle” and UBATC is amping up their recruitment efforts to see that happen. “UBATC’s average student is around 26-years-old,” shares Weight. “Although we are grateful for being able to serve students of all ages and change many lives, it’s time to encourage students to think about their futures at a younger age. The earlier they start, the more opportunities they have at earlier stages in their lives.” UBATC is hosting a senior/parent night on April 27th.
