Tuesday’s Vernal Chamber luncheon had attendees attention as officials shared details of the Uintah County cave rescue that took place in January 2018. Uintah County Fire Marshal Jeremy Raymond and Uintah County Search and Rescue Commander Shad Shelley shared their experience helping a group of people who became trapped inside the Little Brush Creek Cave. The group of four inexperienced individuals entered the cave
at 4pm
on a
Sunday afternoon
and dispatch was called
at 9:14pm
. One person had fallen and was injured, two more were trapped, and one had climbed out to call for help. In dangerous conditions, the injured individual was reached
at 5:30am
and all were eventually taken out of the cave. The man who had fallen was taken to University of Utah hospital and several surgeries and nearly a year of physical therapy later, he continues to recover from his injuries. All in attendance were impressed by the expertise and sacrifice made by the search and rescue professionals. The meeting also enjoyed a presentation from UBTech CDL instructor Seth Taylor.
