Truck Drives Off Vernal Avenue Into Back Of Building On Tuesday Afternoon

An accident on Tuesday afternoon in Uintah County temporarily closed North Vernal Avenue and was believed to be caused by a medical episode. According to Utah Highway Patrol, a pickup truck in the southbound lane ran off the road at 1600 North on Vernal Avenue, sheared a power pole, and drove into the back of a building. The man had to be extricated and traffic was diverted for about 30 minutes to an hour while crews responded to fix downed power lines crossing the road. The crash happened at about 1:30pm and the building was not occupied at the time. It is believed that the driver had a medical episode, causing the incident. The driver was transported in serious condition to an area hospital and then airlifted from the hospital for further treatment.
