Tree Removal Explored within Ashley Creek

Local leaders and concerned community members are proactively searching out ways to address tree crowding in the Ashley Creek. During the Uintah County Commission meeting, the prospect of spring flooding was discussed, specifically in terms of what should be done to clear areas where trees will disrupt the flow. Commissioner Bill Stringer explained that leaders have met with the state water department and are considering options. For one thing, problem areas are being identified and the state has said that you can’t use rubber tired vehicles to remove trees but handtools can be used. Another important consideration is any removal cannot change the alignment of the creek. You can take vegetation out, explained Stringer, but you cannot change the creek’s flow. The county is committed to helping with the effort and citizens will also be helping to cut trees in hopes that when the water starts to flow, the creek can keep it contained and moving through.
