The future of trails and outdoor recreation look bright in Uintah County as the work of the Trails Committee progresses. According to committee member and Vernal City Mayor Sonja Norton, the Master Plan is expected to be complete by spring or early summer and monthly planning meetings have churned out fantastic ideas. The Master Plan is funded by a $350,000 dollar flat grant through the Utah Department of Transportation. For now the discussion is focused on where to start once projects can get underway. Mayor Norton says the feeling right now is to start on urban trails and then work their way out to connect with trails already developed on the edges and away from the highest populated areas of the county. Another important aspect is to create biking routes for safer bike travel in the city and to connect city routes with the area’s bike trails.
