Two teenage boys were arrested near the Vernal Regional Airport on Wednesday following events that are hard to believe. According to the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, the boys, believed to be ages 14 and 15, left a group home on the Wasatch Front early last week and had made their way to eastern Utah where they were staying with friends in the Jensen area.
On Wednesday morning
, the boys found a tractor which they drove to the air strip in Jensen. Once there they stole a fixed-wing, single engine light sport aircraft. “The plane was witnessed flying very low along US-40 near Gusher about 32 miles west of Jensen,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “Based on information obtained by investigators, the teens mentioned flying back towards the Wasatch Front, but decided not to and returned to Vernal where they landed at the airport.” As of Wednesday, the boys were being held at the Split Mountain Youth Detention Center in Vernal on multiple charges. The Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation is ongoing.
