A teen that went missing in the Uinta Mountains on August 7th was found safe after being missing for over 24 hours. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue immediately responded to the call of the disappearance that came in at approximately 11:18am on Thursday. 14-year-old Maya Suisse had last been seen with her family in the Painters Basin area near Kidney Lakes. Horse mounted search teams were part of the search and a helicopter was deployed until high winds made it unsafe. The helicopter crew went back up on Friday and spotted the teen on Friday afternoon. Maya told KSL-TV that she had stepped away from her family to go to the bathroom but then got lost and couldn’t find them again. Thankfully, when she was found over 24 hours later, she was calm and in good physical condition. The family has thanked the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue for finding Maya and supporting them through this scary experience.
