For the fifth year, law enforcement agencies and first responders will gather for a 9/11 Memorial Walk to honor the lives lost in the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. First responders from the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, Rock Springs Fire Department, Sweetwater County Fire District #1, Rock Springs Police Department, Green River Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol, and other local agencies will join together in this symbolic tribute. The walk is open to all and consists of six round-trips (12 total lengths) up and down the Grant Street extension, a distance chosen to simulate the 2,071 steps and 110 floors first responders climbed in each of the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Many law enforcement and fire participants choose to complete the walk in full duty to reflect the weight carried by the fallen heroes they honor. “This annual walk is about remembrance and respect,” shares Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Deputy Jason Mower. “We gather as a community to honor the bravery of those who ran toward danger on 9/11 and to ensure their sacrifice is never forgotten.” Traffic control will be provided to ensure the safety of participants.
