Sunny Cove Fire Evacuates Campground At Flaming Gorge Reservoir

Crews will continue to battle the Sunny Cove Fire in Daggett County today. The fire was discovered at 3:26pm on Monday just south of Mustang Ridge Campground at Flaming Gorge Reservoir. It was initially reported at 5 acres and zero percent containment and was announced the fire was caused by lightning. The Mustang Ridge Campground was evacuated, shifting campers to parking lots in Dutch John. Two helicopters, 3 engines, and two hand crews quickly got to work on the blaze. A bulldozer was also brought in to actively work on putting in a fire line. Law enforcement also stayed busy coordinating with vehicle owners to have vehicles moved from the Mustang Ridge Boat Ramp area. On Monday at 10:45pm, it was reported that the Sunny Cove Fire had grown to 100 acres and was still at zero percent containment.
