Suicide is a serious problem in Utah and unfortunately the Uintah Basin has had a surge in suicides and is among the highest in the state. In the state of Utah there is an average of 10 suicides a week and the data shows that since 2016, it is the leading cause of death in children ages 10 to 17 in the state. With that in mind, a suicide prevention campaign has a clear message to adults about protecting their teens and loved ones and it has to do with firearm safety. 86 percent of firearm deaths in utah are suicides and experts say putting time and distance between a suicidal person and a gun may save their life. Change the locks on guns and make sure other family members cannot find the keys or combination. Lock guns and ammo separately or don’t keep ammunition in the home at all.  For more information, visit
