Local options are available to help community members whose lives have been closely affected by suicide. For family members or friends that have lost a loved one to suicide, the Suicide Bereavement Support Group is meeting monthly at the Uintah County Library. Group facilitator Melissa Huber is a local practicing mental health professional who lost her own mother to suicide. “No two suicides are the same so the issues are multifaceted,” shares Huber, “but I think for the bereavement part when you lose someone to suicide you lose hope and the group helps bring hope to get through another day. Every story is different but the pain is very similar so just sharing in that can really help.” Huber admits that it can be a scary concept to go and sit in a group of people you don’t know and share private information. “First of all you don’t have to share anything you don’t want but what I will say is there probably isn’t anything as scary as what you’ve already been through and this can be a step in a different direction providing an opportunity to support others which often helps you feel a whole lot better.” The bereavement group started one year ago and is being held the first Monday of every month in the Uintah County Library upstairs conference room
