A stranded party of boaters are safe after spending a night on the shore of Flaming Gorge. According to Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell, the Sheriff’s Office was contacted at about 10:45pm Sunday night by a Colorado woman in the area of Big Firehole. “She reported that several family members were part of a group of five boaters who had left Firehole in a cream-colored Glasstron that day but had not returned,” shared Sheriff Lowell. Deputies began the search at about 1:10am and the unoccupied boat was found grounded on the bank about seven shoreline miles north of the Big Firehole Boat ramp on the Gorge’s eastern side. Footprints were found indicating that the party had walked south. The search continued through the night and the party was found at about 8:00am Monday morning. They were spotted stranded about two shoreline miles south of where the boat was grounded. They were transported back to Big Firehole.
