Ashley National Forest has announced that some forest roads are now open while some are not due to conditions. May 1st is generally the opening date but snow drifts and wet, muddy conditions mean some roads are impassable, especially at higher elevations and on north facing slopes. “Travelers are urged to use caution to avoid becoming stuck or stranded or causing costly damage to the road surface,” shares the Ashley National Forest announcement. As of May 1st, the gate is open on Taylor Mountain Road but road conditions vary; the gate is open in Dry Fork Canyon but snowdrifts are still present 3 miles north of the Flume Trail parking area; Whiterocks Canyon Road and Whiterocks Campground are open; and gates are open on Red Cloud Loop and forest routes off Highway 191 but road conditions vary.
