There has been a string of snowmobiling incidents already in 2023 and all are reminded to be extra cautious while recreating in the heavy winter conditions. The tragedies include a fatal accident in which famous action sports legend Kenneth Block died on January 2nd in Wasatch County and one on January 4th with serious injuries that required a medical helicopter when a Garmin Personal Locator brought help to a 21 year old in the remote region of Current Creek Peak. The first rescue of the New Year for Search and Rescue in that region was a group of stranded snowmobilers in the Strawberry River area along the Duchesne County border. A 9-1-1 call issued around 3:23pm reported 4 snowmobilers that were buried in all new snow and needed assistance. They had spent hours trying to get out when Search and Rescue teams were deployed to help. Everyone was able to be evacuated to the trailhead with no injuries. Please be safe while snowmobiling.
