Just before 11pm on April 25th, Central Dispatch sent out an Attempt to Locate for a white Pontiac that had been called in for not being able to maintain its lane of travel and nearly hitting a guardrail. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and observed that the driver, 40-year-old William Ray Wilson, was dressed in all blue and had a blue bandana hanging from his rear view mirror which was noted as possibly having gang affiliation. A handgun was on the passenger seat and Wilson stated he had it for protection and that he had been in Vernal to visit a family member. He consented to having the vehicle searched and a THC disposable vape pen was located in its original packaging as well as 3 empty packages. Due to the driving pattern, field sobriety testing was performed. At the conclusion it was determined he was too impaired to drive and was placed under arrest for DUI, possession of Marijuana without a medical card, and possession of a firearm by a restricted person. During the search upon the arrest, a glass pipe and baggie with Methamphetamine was located in Wilson’s pocket. When interviewed, Wilson admitted that he had come to Vernal to buy and smoke meth and that he had smoked meth and weed prior to driving.
