Thankfully local wildfires have been kept to a minimum so far this year but that doesn’t mean the Uintah Basin won’t have to deal with smokey skies. National Weather Service confirms that smoke from fires across the western United States are impacting eastern Utah. The Colorado Department of Health reported on Wednesday that smoke from out-of-state wildfires, particularly from northern California, are expected to increase in the region. On Wednesday in particular, smoke increased across western Colorado before spreading into eastern parts of the state into Thursday. The CDC shares that those at greatest risk from having wildfire smoke in the air are people who have heart or lung diseases such as COPD or asthma.
