It’s time everyone on the road take a deep breath and just slow down. Colorado State Patrol investigated over 500 fatal and injury crashes that involved a speeding driver and the problem goes beyond just Colorado. Speeding reduces reaction time; makes it harder to handle turns, curves, and emergencies; extends stopping distances; and increases the severity of injuries in high-speed collisions. CSP also emphasizes that at higher speeds, safety features like seatbelts and airbags are less effective and increase the risk of severe injuries. “Speeding not only endangers the driver, but also every other pedestrian and driver in the area,” explains Col. Packard. “Rolling the dice by speeding isn’t consensual with motorists around you. It’s a violation of the law.” All are urged to stop speeding and drive like a trooper is riding with you.
