Slick Roads Cause Accidents Over Christmas Holiday; Winter Driving Tips

Having a white Christmas has the unfortunate side effect of slick roads. Uintah County Sheriff’s Office is reminding community members to slow down as road conditions change moment to moment during the current storms and to remember that rain followed by snow results in especially slick conditions. The Sheriff’s Office has shared some tips for winter driving. “Periodically, check traction when driving in challenging conditions. Road conditions can change drastically in a short period of time or distance in winter. Apply the brakes with moderate pressure to determine the available grip and modify your driving, if needed, to respond to ever-changing road conditions.” It’s important to avoid braking or accelerating when negotiating a turn. Rather, brake before the turn, negotiate the turn, and then accelerate after the turn. Finally, remember to always avoid using cruise control in wet, icy or snow conditions to maintain control of acceleration and deceleration at all times.
