An arrest made this month for Wanton Destruction of Livestock in Duchesne County does not appear to be related to the malicious livestock killings under investigation by the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, officers were dispatched to the Mini Ranches area of Duchesne County on October 3rd on a report of trespassing in which a man from the Herriman, Utah area had arrived and slaughtered a llama. The man was known to the property owner but the visit was reported as trespassing. The property owner reported that the man said he had purchased a gun and butcher kit, which he brought with him to kill the llama, and then left in a pickup with the slaughtered llama in the back. It was noted that the man was a disabled vet with PTSD. Officers responded and saw the described vehicle traveling down County Road 29 towards Highway 40 and a traffic stop was initiated. The slaughtered llama was observed in the bed of the pickup. When asked if he knew why he was being pulled over he responded that he did and that he had been having a hard time lately. 33-year-old Jordan Blake Gomez was placed under arrest and was being held without bail in the Duchesne County Jail. Gomez is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Wanton Destruction of Livestock.
