An alleged shoplifter has been leveled with federal charges locally. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, Walmart contacted Vernal City Police on March 12th for a shoplifting incident that had occurred. Walmart was able to provide documentation that this person had been ‘Trespassed from all Walmarts’ in 2024. The investigation revealed that the woman had once again committed Retail Theft by taking merchandise from the store, passing all points of sale. 48-year-old Brandy Sue Montoya of Vernal was arrested and booked into Uintah County Jail. Walmart contacted the investigator and provided information on several other shoplifting incidents involving Brandy Montoya from the last 6 months. The officer verified the video footage of Brandy not paying for items and passing all points of sale and exiting the store. Montoya has been charged with four counts of 3rd Degree Felony Burglary and one count of Misdemeanor Theft. She was released from Uintah County Jail with Conditions and is scheduled in court in April.
