Shed Antler Hunting Opens Soon; Ethics Course Is Required

by | Jan 30, 2024 | News | 0 comments

If the mild winter continues it could be a big year for shed antler hunting but the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources has a reminder to all those eager to get out there. Before heading outdoors, you are required to complete the 2024 DWR Antler Gathering Ethics course if you plan to gather shed antlers between February 1st and April 15th. The course is required each year, is free, and can be found on wildlife.utah.gov. After completing the course you can either store the certificate of completion in the DWR Hunting and Fishing app on your device or you can print the certificate and keep it with you while shed hunting. The certificate does not allow you to hunt anywhere and everywhere. Many of the wildlife management areas in the state are closed in the winter and spring to protect animals and their habitat. Private property is off limits unless you have written permission from the landowner ahead of time. And many Native American lands, national parks, and national monuments are closed to antler and horn gathering.
