Senator John Curtis visited the Uintah Basin this week and held a radio townhall on Newstalk 104.5 FM KVEL. The conversation kicks off talking about President Trump’s tariffs and the economy. Curtis also discussed the Fix Our Forests Act that he has introduced as bipartisan legislation aimed at combating catastrophic wildfires and making federal forest management more efficient. When talking about environmental reform, Senator Curtis emphasized that reform is not about taking shortcuts, it is about being smart and efficient. These projects still need to meet every requirement but if you take a dollar of federal money the requirements now must be done twice. It is needlessly duplicative and adds 30% cost and years to the project. Curtis said this is a bipartisan issue because it is as hard to permit a windmill as it is an oil well. The radio townhall also welcomed calls from the public and discussed more hot topics, including public lands, federal deportations, and more.
