While the rains are comforting, Utah and Colorado are still in a historic drought and bipartisan work led by Senator John Curtis aims to help. The Senate passed the Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program Reauthorization Act, which would reauthorize the Bureau of Reclamation’s Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program, continue funding, and make improvements to the program. “Water is one of the defining challenges facing Utah and the West, and we need good information to make good decisions,” shares Senator Curtis. “In a state where so much of our water supply depends on mountain snowpack, better forecasting helps farmers, communities, and water managers plan ahead and make the most of every drop. I’m pleased the Senate passed our bipartisan bill to strengthen these tools and give Western states better information to manage their water resources.” Snowpack provides about 95% of Utah’s water supply so having more knowledge and resources attached to snowpack will provide the state with information to make better informed decisions.
