Semi Pulls Down Power Pole After Catching Cable Line

Power was knocked out and a portion of Main Street in Vernal was closed after an accident near 900 West Main Street on Thursday afternoon. According to Vernal PD, a semi was pulling out of a parking lot at around 3:30pm and the cargo trailer hit one of the lines above. This pulled the power pole over which subsequently caused a domino effect, pulling over several of the other lines. A Rocky Mountain Power representative clarified that the semi did not hit any powerline, rather it hit a Strata cable TV line attached to the power pole below the powerlines and that is what tore the poles and wires down. The power outage affected the immediate area. Most of the power was restored by early evening but responders were dealing with some areas still affected later into the night. Vernal PD shared that they are investigating what caused the issue, including the possibility that the caught line was too low.
