A semi tanker rollover on Highway 40 closed both directions of Highway 40
on Wednesday morning
. According to Utah Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately
7:10am
near the Strawberry UDOT sheds at milepost 42. “While enroute, Troopers were advised that only the pup trailer had rolled and caught fire and the tractor and long trailer were able to detach from the pup and move from the scene,” shares Highway Patrol. “The pup trailer was fully engulfed in the west bound lane of SR 40. It was determined that the driver had fallen asleep and drifted off the right shoulder of the road. When he corrected back onto the roadway, the pup trailer rolled and then caught fire.” The fire was extinguished by Wasatch County Fire. Crude oil did enter a stream next to the crash. Highway Patrol was able to open an alternating lane of traffic
around 10am
. The trucking company involved is working with Envirocare on the clean up of the crash scene as well as the oil that entered the nearby stream. A lane shift will also need to be put into place until the roadway is fixed.
