Statewide, schools received a record $111.3 million dollars this year from the School LAND Trust Program—including $1,208,290 for Uintah County School District and $1,001,597 for Duchesne County School District. The press release shares that the program is funded through revenue generated from trust lands. The majority of Uintah and Duchesne County Schools are utilizing a portion of their School LAND Trust Funds to support all students to be able to read at or above grade level. School Community Councils (SCCs) made up of parents, teachers and the principal, plan how this money will be spent each year at the school level. “Our School Community Council looks closely at student and teacher data to determine our greatest area of need, and reading rises to the top,” shares Davis Elementary Principal Cris Labrum. “It is our belief that when students read on grade level, they are better prepared to succeed in other parts of school, including personal and interpersonal areas.” Visit the School Land Trust website for more information.
