Safety Alert For Green River; Please Use Caution Around And On River

by | May 31, 2022 | News | 0 comments

A safety alert has been issued for the Green River due to the water being released from Flaming Gorge Dam at full bypass capacity. While the releases have increased as part of the plan to send water on to Lake Powell, the Bureau of Reclamation shares that the switch to full bypass capacity is due to the presence of larval razorback suckers which prompted the Larval Trigger Study Plan. Being on or near the river’s bank poses a serious threat as the river bank may break without warning. National Weather Service issued an alert on Friday that the river is at capacity and near flood stage. Thankfully no flooding occurred over the weekend but as of Monday the public was still urged to use caution and be aware of the danger. Dinosaur National Monument shared the following message: “When we have strong river flows, be cautious around drop offs along the river. The current may have undercut the bank making it ready to collapse. This occurs in Echo Park, Rainbow Park, Split Mountain, and other areas along the river.” Please recreate responsibly and make safety your top priority.
