Roosevelt City Council received Open Public Meeting Training during Tuesday’s Council meeting. The training explained that Utah’s Open and Public Meetings Act states that all public bodies are to make their decisions and conduct deliberations in public, creating transparency. If a quorum is ever convened, it is a meeting and the body must be in compliance with the Open and Public Meetings Act. The only exception, as explained in the training, is chance encounters and social occasions. Roosevelt City Council also approved a Resolution during their Council meeting on Tuesday implementing a public comment period at the beginning of each council meeting. Individuals will be allowed to comment for up to 3 minutes each. According to Roosevelt City Mayor JR Bird, the Resolution also changes the deadline for community members wanting to put items on the agenda to be submitted 8 days prior to the scheduled meeting. The purpose of this is to get the agenda information to the City Council in plenty of time to review before the meeting. It is also to make the packet of information available to the public on the public notice website.
