It’s onward and upward in Roosevelt City with a new project to improve the golf course. Roosevelt City Golf Greens Superintendent Mike Oakes and his staff have been busy clearing the Roosevelt City property adjacent to the golf course just north of Summerall Lane on 200 North to make way for an on-site greens nursery. “By having an on-site nursery, it will help the city save on the cost for purchasing sod as it will be cheaper to buy turf seed and grow it in house, then cut the sod when ready in house for use,” shares the announcement. “Blue spruce trees also tend to be more expensive as they get bigger to buy and plant, but buying and starting them small and growing them in house will help cut those costs as well. In addition to cost savings, it will also help speed up the time on turf repairs around the golf course.” Planting in the turf nursery will start in early spring.
