Roosevelt City received notice on Tuesday, April 2nd that they were awarded over $200,000 by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to improve
500 East between Lagoon Street
and 800 South. Receiving the funds from CDBG is quite an ordeal as it takes a great deal of labor to process and has very strict requirements. This project will benefit the whole community but especially the kids who use this sidewalk to go to and from Centennial Elementary and Union High School, shares the Roosevelt City announcement. The lighting will make it much safer for everyone. “This project is really going to help improve this neighborhood,” says Assistant City Manager John Zilles. “If you’ve driven down 500 East at night, you’ve probably noticed that it’s not as well-lit compared to other parts of the city. It will be safer for everyone to have better lighting in that area. We believe that street lights help reduce crime and improve quality of life [and] should make a big difference for children who use this road to walk to and from school.”
