Roosevelt City Police Offering “Safe Zone” for Child Exchanges

Roosevelt City is now offering a service that it hopes will promote safety as well as free up resources. The Roosevelt City Police Department has installed a camera in the police parking lot on the south side of the City building that can serve as what they call a Safe Zone. Roosevelt Police Chief Rick Harrison says that law enforcement agencies around the Basin respond to child exchange “keep the peace” calls and most of the time they are non-eventful and most parents are appropriate and considerate. “However, there is a lot of emotion involved in parenting and child issues and occasionally situations arise when one or more parties feel it wise to have a third party present,” shares Chief Harrison. “We hope to provide a place where video monitoring creates that safe place without the potential embarrassment of third party involvement. It may not be ideal for all situations, but hopefully will be a benefit for some.” The camera is near the overhead garage door where there is a sign that says “Safe Zone” and the camera records the space where the sign is and spaces on either side.
