Roosevelt City Having Fun Sharing Theodore Roosevelt Trivia

Roosevelt City is adding some personality to their Facebook page by sharing appreciation for what the name of Roosevelt means to the city. As an example of their postings, before his presidency, Theodore Roosevelt served as police commissioner in New York City. His “bull in a china shop” approach to reformation made such an impact that both criminals and politicians actually led protests against him. He took late night walks through the City, reprimanding officers that he found sleeping at their posts or otherwise shirking their duties. He believed strongly in recruiting officers based on their merit rather than their political affiliation. He also insisted on enforcing the law that closed saloons on Sunday. However, the protests backfired. Roosevelt responded with such good humor to the insults hurled at him that many members of the public changed their minds and began to view him much more favorably. Eventually, he was asked to run for governor of New York by many of the same politicians who had protested against him.
