Roosevelt City Explains Approach to Prolonging Life of Roads

In trying to keep their residents informed and educated Roosevelt City recently explained why the city chip seals the roads. It comes down to two basic needs. First chip sealing is cheaper. It costs $30,000 to $40,000 dollars to chip seal one mile of road in comparison to the $1.4 million dollars it would cost to do one mile of new road. That’s a little more than one-sixth of the city’s total general fund operating budget in one year. The second reason for the sealing is that it extends the life of the road by 5 to 7 years. For new roads it keeps them in peak condition and for the older roads it makes it so the city can save money and find grants while still using the roads.
