The Roosevelt Municipal Airport will be closed
starting Monday
as major construction gets underway. Through the efforts of Roosevelt City Manager Ryan Snow, Assistant City Manager John Zilles, and Airport Manager Howard Harding, Roosevelt City was able to secure a $9 million dollar grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for the reconstruction of the existing runway and construction of a new parallel taxiway. “This was a really competitive process,” shares Airport Manager Howard Harding. “For some perspective, the FAA budgeted $1 billion dollars for this program. They received applications for $16 billion dollars. That’s how competitive it was, and Roosevelt managed to get $9 million dollars of that.” Roosevelt City shares that other partners who helped secure the grant funds include J.U.B. Engineers for design work and U.S. Senators Mike Lee and Orrin Hatch, U.S. Representative Rob Bishop, and Utah Senator Kevin VanTassell, who all sent letters of support to the FAA. The improvements will aid in upgrading airport safety and allow heavier planes to land. Pilots have been notified and were given the opportunity to relocate their planes. The airport will be closed
on Monday, July 22nd
and is scheduled to reopen by
October 22nd
of this year.
