When Duchesne County Commissioner Ronald Winterton began his pursuit to represent District 26 in the Utah State Senate race, it was under assurance from the Attorney General and Lt. Governor that he could continue to serve as a commissioner. Unfortunately, Winterton was advised last week by the Senate Legal Council that he did not have their blessing to continue serving as a County Commissioner, prompting Winterton to issue an announcement this week. Portions of his announcement are as follows: “It is with great sadness today that I announce my resignation as Duchesne County Commissioner effective January 28th, 2019…It has been an honor and privilege to serve as a Duchesne County Commissioner these last 10 years… As I look back I am amazed with the accomplishments and milestones that we have accomplished together. I am so grateful that we have been able to hold strong with our budget, living within our means, and not raising taxes even through very lean years. Every community has benefitted from improvements and wonderful projects, many of which have been funded by the CIB board which I have loved serving on. Through the CIB board we have seen tens of millions of dollars come back to our county…I look forward now to using the experience I have gained as commissioner to represent District 26 in the Utah State Senate.” Winterton has committed to do his part to make the transition as smooth as possible. The Duchesne County Republican Central Committee will select a replacement for Winterton’s Commission seat.
