Officials are assessing the damage of a road north of Rifle that was discovered
Friday morning
to have an entire lane crumbled away. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, Highway 325 was closed on Friday north of Rifle at Mile Post 7 after road damage was reported on the northbound lane. “Engineering and maintenance crews responded to the bank failure which collapsed the highway, located about two miles north of the Rifle Gap Reservoir,” shares CDOT. “The damage is extensive and will require reconstruction.” Maintenance crews worked through the night to install a temporary barrier which allowed the reopening of the road to alternating traffic in the remaining lane. Travelers should expect delays and there is an 11 foot width restriction in place.
