Car break-ins and thefts have been an issue this month as holiday grinches make their rounds throughout the region. Most recently, Rifle Police Department reported Sunday morning that in the previous 24 hours there had been 3 cars stolen in Rifle, a highly unusual occurrence in that community. “In each case the car was unlocked,” shared Rifle Police. “In two cases, spare keys were left inside the car and in the last instance, a victim started his truck to warm it up and returned a few minutes later to find it missing. We live in a small community and it is easy to let our guard down. Always lock your car and never leave spare keys or valuables inside. Never leave your car running unattended outside of your home or a business.” Rifle Police also stated that suspects are punching ignitions. All are urged to always lock vehicle doors. Vernal Police made a similar plea to the public before Christmas as robberies were happening around town and vehicles were being broken into. Please do not leave valuables in vehicles or out in plain sight and of course, keep your vehicles and homes locked and secure.
