For nearly four decades, Vernal City Manager Ken Bassett has been a fixture in local government but he will soon be moving on to a new adventure in Istanbul, Turkey. With his wife RoJean by his side, Ken accepted a special recognition award during the Vernal Chamber awards banquet last week for his many years of service to the community. Ken began with Vernal City in 1978 and over the years has served on countless boards, committees and even as the President of the Utah City Managers Association. Ken will retire in June and he and RoJean will travel in August to Istanbul, Turkey where they will serve a two year mission for the LDS Church. “How grateful we are to have had this opportunity to be with you for these years,” shared Ken. “I’m grateful that 39 years ago I found out where Vernal, Utah was and made that decision to come out. We dearly love this community and we will take the love of Vernal to Istanbul for 2 years and share that love with them.” Ken’s last day as Vernal City Manager will be June 30th.
