Reservoir Reopened in Rio Blanco County After Unexplained Event

Kenney Reservoir located near Rangely, Colorado in Rio Blanco County has been reopened after an investigation concluded it was safe to do so. On the night of Monday, July 26th, and into the morning of the 27th, “several reports of sudden, unexplained medical symptoms were reported by multiple parties present [at Kenney Reservoir] during the late evening to early morning hours that resulted in several individuals requiring emergency medical treatment. All parties are now stable and no additional reports have been received.” The Reservoir was closed to the public while multiple evaluations of the area took place over several days and no ongoing threat to public health or safety was identified. “It has been determined that it is safe to reopen the Reservoir at this time with additional monitoring to ensure a similar event does not occur in the future,” shares the Rio Blanco County Department of Health. The public is asked to report any abnormal or suspicious symptoms, odors or activity at Kenney Reservoir to public health over the next few weeks. Information can be reported to 970-878-9525.
