The Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute has published a new report that gives a “Portrait of Agriculture” in Utah based on 2022 census data. Agricultural activity utilized nearly one-fifth of Utah’s land and generated over $2 billion dollars in sales. Duchesne County was number 10 and Uintah County was number 11 on the list for top agriculture product sales. The number of farm operations in Duchesne County was 898 and in Uintah County was 1,023. Uintah, San Juan, Box Elder, and Duchesne counties each contained more than one million acres of farmland and collectively accounted for 54.9% of the state’s farmland. Uintah, San Juan, Duchesne, and Box Elder counties accounted for nearly 60% of all dedicated pastureland in the state, each with over 870,000 acres. Five counties, including Duchesne, lost over 100,000 acres of farmland each with Duchesne County losing 249,000 acres of farmland alone. The link to the entire report is below.
