It took a few days but National Weather Service out of Grand Junction, Colorado, issued a report on the tornado a week ago near Jensen, confirming that it was in fact a tornado. “On the evening of September 18, 2026, several severe thunderstorms formed in portions of Uintah County, Utah,” shares the announcement. “One of those thunderstorms produced a brief and weak tornado in between Jensen, Utah and Dinosaur, Colorado. The tornado did not cause any damage and lasted a few minutes. The tornado was witnessed by several members of the public,” shares the report. It was given a rating of EF-U on the Enhanced Fujita Scale which means its peak wind and path length and width are Unknown. Just 3 hours earlier, a tornado traveled over the mountain on the Wasatch Front traveling over a mile knocking down trees and lifting debris in a path of over 100 yards wide. It was registered as an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale because the wind speeds reached 100 mph. The tornado near Jensen was number 4 for Utah this year, which is double an average year.
