A repeat DUI offender was arrested in Vernal for DUI last week. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, an officer noticed a vehicle located near 600 South 200 East with its engine running that left its parking spot with a sense of urgency when the officer neared the area. The officer began following the vehicle and observed it swerve into the oncoming lane, at which point the officer initiated a traffic stop. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Tyler Cook. The officer noted that Tyler was speaking with a slur and his eyes were red and glossy. Tyler said he had been drinking earlier that evening at a local bar before it closed for the night. Field Sobriety Tests were attempted which overall Tyler was unable to perform or did not pass. A records check showed that Tyler was an Alcohol Restricted Driver with multiple prior DUI offenses. A portable breath test showed 0.226 Breath Alcohol Content and a blood draw was performed at the hospital. Tyler Platero Cook was booked into Uintah County Jail and is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Driving Under The Influence and other traffic and drug misdemeanor charges.
