Uintah High Athletics shared a worthy tribute to Curg Belcher who passed away at the age of 81 on October 1st. "Coach Belcher was a Uintah Ute through and through. A 1963 graduate of UHS, he went on to letter at BYU from 1964 to 1966, playing on the Cougars' first WAC Championship team. He was selected in the 1967 NFL Draft, then came home to Vernal and spent nearly 30 years coaching and mentoring Uintah High student-athletes.
As head football coach, he led the Utes to the 1994 State Championship, multiple state semifinal appearances, and an unforgettable 14-0 undefeated season. He also coached wrestling and track. He was inducted into the Utah Coaches Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Uintah High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011, and in 2021 our stadium was dedicated as Coach Belcher Stadium."
